Executive Committees

Actuarial Committee
  • Chair Keith Kaplan, Reliance Ins. Co. In Liquidation
  • Vice-Chair, Steven Herman, CNA Global Resource Mgrs.

Purpose: To develop and disseminate educational information on actuarial issues relevant to run-off and receivership.

A & H/Life Committee
  • Chair Barry Biller

Purpose: To develop and communicate information relevant to accident, health and disability run-off businesses. This Committee will also coordinate its activities with AIRROC’s Education, Legislation and Publication Committees.

Education Committee
  • Co-Chairs Karen Amos, Resolute Mgmt. & Kathy Barker, Mitsui Sumitomo

Purpose: Education of the receivership process, reinsurers’ concerns, regulator concerns, resolution of run-off issues, etc.

Education Sub-Committee - Commutation Fall Event & Regional Education
  • Chair Ed Gibney, CNA

Purpose: The purpose of the Event Committee is twofold. First, to arrange for the annual AIRROC/Cavell Commutations and Networking Event held in October each year and secondly to arrange the venues for Regional Education sessions which are co-sponsored by both AIRROC Members as well as our Professional Service Partners (Law Firms, Runoff Managers, etc.).

Finance Committee
  • Chair Marianne Petillo, ROM

Purpose: The Finance Committee is responsible for budget preparation and review, ensuring that the budget is accurate by tracking and monitoring the funds taken in and distributed. This committee also ensures adequate financial controls by overseeing all financial matters of the organization.

IT/Website Committee
  • Chair Marianne Petillo, ROM

Purpose: Research solutions for various IT platforms to produce reports necessary for effective run-off Website: Construction and oversight maintenance of AIRROC website.

Legislative/Amicus Committee
  • Chair Frank Kehrwald, Swiss Re

Purpose: Represent member interests through legislative, regulatory or amicus involvement in matters which are unique to insurance run-off or involve financially impaired companies within the insurance industry and serve the needs of AIRROC members.

We will do this through:

INFORMATION - track and report relevant legislative, regulatory and legal developments, seeking and receiving input from the Board and members.

ADVOCACY - Develop legislative and regulatory comment or amicus letters as recommended by the committee and/or requested by members and approved by the Board. Coordinate with other trade organizations through participation in collaborative efforts on legislative, regulatory or legal positions which have been authorized by the Board.

DISPUTE MANAGEMENT - Develop and implement a protocol for expedited resolution of claim controversies among or involving member companies.

2009 Objectives: Roll-out Dispute Management protocols during or before the AIRROC Fall 2009 member meeting.

Marketing Committee
  • Chair Mike Palmer, Citadel Re

Purpose: Membership growth, industry awareness, marketing of AIRROC meetings/events and AIRROC website advertising.

Publication Committee
  • Co-Chairs Leah Spivey, Munich Re America & Colm Holmes, Zurich

Purpose: Create AIRROC publication, determine & solicit applicable articles or papers, liaise with other related publications, create news releases for AIRROC website.
