AIRROC Board Elects New Leadership

AIRROC (the Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Run-Off Companies) announces the election of Leah Spivey as its new Chair and J. Marcus Doran and Peter Scarpato as Co-Vice Chairmen.

They all have a long history of dedicated service to AIRROC both on the board of directors and in leadership positions on key committees within the organization. 

Spivey is Co-Chair of the Committee that implemented AIRROC’s new Certified Legacy Insurance Professional (CLIP) designation last year and the immediate past Co-Chair of AIRROC’s Publication Committee.  Doran is Co-Chair of the Education Committee, and Scarpato chairs the Publication Committee and is the Editor-in-Chief of AIRROC Matters, the organization’s quarterly publication. 

 “I am honored to have been chosen by the board as its Chair and offer my energy and commitment to help insure that AIRROC will always find new ways to be the go to networking arm of the industry,” Spivey said. Mr. Scarpato commented that he is “looking forward to continuing to work with the board and the members to make AIRROC a leader in the run-off market. “  Doran offered, that “I have seen first-hand the value proposition of AIRROC play out for those who embrace the opportunity and offer my time to see that the opportunity continues to be relevant.”

Collectively serving as AIRROC’s Executive Committee, they bring many years of experience with them.  Leah Spivey is the Head of Business Runoff for Munich Re America and has responsibility for all of its 2001 and prior liabilities. Leah manages a staff of Insurance and Reinsurance Professionals with a portfolio of current and former clients.  Before joining Munich Re in 1993 Leah was with The Home and prior to that General Accident Insurance Company.

Peter Scarpato is Vice President – Ceded Reinsurance at the Brandywine Group of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies, where he works with a team of billers and collectors, negotiates payment and settlement of ceded balances and manages arbitrated and litigated disputes.  Before joining Brandywine, Peter was President of Conflict Resolved, LLC, his own ADR practice, which covered all forms of civil, commercial, contract, construction and insurance disputes, with a specific expertise in property/casualty insurance and reinsurance, run-off business, securities, surety and warranty.

J. Marcus Doran is Assistant Vice President of Commutations at The Hartford.  Marcus and his team are responsible for commutations across various business units of The Hartford, both ongoing and in run-off.  Marcus started his insurance career more than 22 years ago in the claims department of the Great American Insurance Company and worked in the Reinsurance Division of Travelers Property Casualty prior to joining The Hartford.

AIRROC’s mission is to promote and represent the common interests of insurance and reinsurance companies with legacy business through the improvement of professional and managerial standards and practices, as well as enhancing knowledge and communications within and outside of the run-off industry.
