AIRROC's PFAS/PFOA: An Overview of the Scientific and
Legal Issues Presented by The “Forever Chemicals”
Webinar
February 2, 2022

The scientific, regulatory, and economic developments associated with PFAS/PFOA—commonly referred to as the “forever chemicals”—are rapidly evolving and poised to have a significant impact on the insurance industry. This 1-hour seminar, presented jointly by the insurance practice group of Stradley Ronon and scientific experts from Roux, will provide you with critical knowledge and insight on the scientific and legal issues associated with these chemicals. The first half of the seminar will cover the chemistry of PFAS, its historical and present uses, the threats it poses to human health and property, and the challenges associated with remediation. The second half of the seminar will address the complex legal and insurance coverage issues arising from PFAS/PFOA. The topics addressed will include the current federal and state regulatory landscape, the types of claims that are currently in existence, the types of future claims that may arise, and the coverage issues that are only now beginning to come to the forefront.

Presenters:
Catherine Boston, Principal Scientist/Risk Assessor, Roux
Bill Mandia, Partner, Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young LLP
Candance Wygel, Staff Geologist/Geochemist, Roux
