AIRROC Chicago Regional Education Day

 The AIRROC Chicago Regional will be a one day event on June 12 at the American Bar Association Headquarters.

Come and mingle with AIRROC members and partners and learn about some of the industry's trending topics from experts in the field.  The event will feature breakfast, lunch and end the day with a networking reception.

Featured Topics:

Wading into Flood Insurance
A general overview of how the national flood insurance program and write your own carriers work together, the impact the advent of reinsurance has had on the program, and the history of flood insurance related litigation across important catastrophic flooding events.

Insurance Issues Raised by Artificial Intelligence in the Workplace
A look at the ways in which artificial intelligence and  automation have changed how businesses  operate, and the associated risks and insurance implications of  these innovations. The presenters will survey the landscape of recent innovation, provide an overview of recent case law  addressing liability for AI-related issues, and discuss the insurance implications past and future.

The U.S. Opioid Epidemic:  Background, Current Statistics, Litigation & Insurance Claims/Coverage Issues
A look at the facts and statistics affecting the national opioid epidemic, as well an update on current issues, including legislative efforts and the pending multi-district litigation. There will also be a detailed discussion of the legal theories of liability against drug manufacturers, distributors and other involved parties to recover the costs associated with the epidemic, and of related insurance coverage issues under CGL, D&O, and professional liability policies. 

Peer-to-Peer Pressure
An overview of the peer-to-peer insurance model, identification of the potential pitfalls in implementation, and discussion of real-world successes and failures.

Talc and Cancer: The Science and the Litigation
Talc has been back in the news recently with large verdicts in favor of women claiming that they suffered from cervical cancer as a result of their use of talcum powder.  We can expect to see additional claims by additional plaintiffs claiming similar injuries.  But talc claims are not new.  There have been previous claims by individuals that they were exposed to asbestos-contaminated powder and contracted mesothelioma.  Our speakers will include a toxicologist who will provide a medical background and a veteran defense attorney to discuss strategies for defending these claims.

Legal Roundup: A Report Out on Recent Notable Court Decisions
Commentary and updates on recent court actions with a focus on both direct insurance and reinsurance issues.
